In March, 2009, I helped Middle America learn more about women who come out as gay later in life, when I placed bisexuality expert Dr. Lisa Diamond, Ph.D. onto The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss fluidity in women’s sexual orientation. I also media trained Diamond prior to her appearance on the program. The show reached Oprah’s estimated 8-million daily viewers shedding light on a vitally important LGBT topic.
Diamond had very kind words to share about her experience:
“As an academic, I admit that I know very little about the world of publicity and media relations, and I never devoted much thought to strategies for disseminating my research findings to a broader audience. But Cindi Creager really dove in like ‘Superwoman,’ and managed to garner more attention for my research and my book, Sexual Fluidity, than I would have ever imagined, most notably a booking on ‘Oprah’ (I still have to pinch myself). What made her so successful in this, I think, is that she completely understood and respected the core message of my work, and she also completely understood and respected what the Oprah producers were looking for. She has a ‘matchmaker’s’ sense of how to place the right message in the right outlet. The results speak for themselves. I feel fortunate to know her.”
It was an honor to work with Dr. Diamond and I look forward to providing more media training and media relations services in the future.
