CreagerCole began 2016 with two transgender-focused media placements for our clients. First, we executed a media opportunity for the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) in Ebony Magazine. The article, titled, “For Transgender Community, Legal Hurdles Require Extra Help,” featured TLDEF’s Name Change Project and highlighted the courageous personal story of TLDEF client, Racquelle Trammel. TLDEF is committed to ending discrimination based upon gender identity and expression and to achieving equality for transgender people through public education, test-case litigation, direct legal services, and public policy efforts. It’s Name Change Project provides free legal name change services to transgender people through partnerships with some of the nation’s most prestigious law firms and corporate law departments.
We also placed our client Jillian T. Weiss into a comprehensive Chicago Tribune feature story about transgender workplace issues, titled, “How companies accommodate transgender employees— and their colleagues.”
Weiss is the founder of the Law Office of Jillian T. Weiss PC, a firm that represents transgender people who have experienced employment and health care discrimination based on gender identity or expression. She is also a Professor of Law and Society at Ramapo College of New Jersey and Executive Director of the National Transgender Bar Association, now in formation. Her firm currently has 20 active cases, which constitutes the largest caseload of transgender employment discrimination cases in the country.
