In early March, 2016, the CreagerCole team attended the Official Major League Baseball Diversity Business Summit, hosted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. ”The MLB Diversity Business Summit is the premier sports employment conference and supplier diversity trade fair. This two-day event allows job seekers and entrepreneurs the unique opportunity of meeting with MLB’s Clubs at both the Major League and Minor League levels as well as sponsorship partners.”
During the conference we met with nearly 20 of the 30 MLB clubs as well as the Office of the Commissioner, to pitch our proposal for helping the league increase its LGBT fan base through a sustained CreagerCole public relations campaign aimed at creating a climate where all LGBT fans well welcome at ballparks.
We commend MLB for all of its recent efforts to be more inclusive, most notably promoting former MLB player, Billy Bean, to the role of vice-president of social responsibility and inclusion. According to OutSports: ”In his elevated role, Bean will be responsible for many of the League’s social responsibility initiatives, including oversight of MLB’s Workplace Code of Conduct and anti-bullying programming, while continuing to facilitate inclusion strategies with a focus on the #LGBT community.”
During the Diversity Business Summit MLB also announced a historic supplier diversity partnership with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. A Fortune article about the arrangement, said it will “help certified businesses become official suppliers for the MLB for the first time ever.” As an NGLCC Certified Business Enterprise (LGBTBE), this is extremely welcome news to CreagerCole, as we have great aspirations to become an LGBT-focused public relations supplier to the league as it continues to expand on LGBT inclusion. We’re passionate about baseball and LGBT issues so we see it as a perfect fit.
