On Monday, January 23, world renowned fashion model Hanne Gaby Odiele announced to the world that she is intersex. After months of planning and preparation with Hanne, her team at Women Model Management and the team at interACT Advocates for Intersex Youth, CreagerCole Communications orchestrated the disclosure in an exclusive USA Today feature story.
Hanne is from Kortrijk, Belgium. The 29-year-old is widely known for her street style and has successfully walked the runways of New York, Paris and Milan since she was discovered in 2005. Based in in New York City, Odiele has modeled for premier brands including Chanel, Dior, Alexander Wang, and many more. After years of keeping her intersex status undisclosed, Odiele has chosen to reveal who she is to empower herself, give voice to other intersex people, and help end the human rights violations thousands of intersex people like her have endured.
“It is very important to me in my life right now to break the taboo,” she told USA Today. ‘At this point, in this day and age, it should be perfectly all right to talk about this,’ says [Hanne], one of the first high-profile people to disclose her intersex status and share her story.”
After the announcement broke, news outlets from around the world picked up the story and spread Hanne’s bold message of courage and advocacy far and wide. The Washington Post, National Public Radio, Sky News, Huffington Post, and Vogue are among the dozens of news sites to run stories on Hanne this week and the coverage is only continuing.
CreagerCole is proud to promote Hanne’s personal story and her fierce activism alongside interACT. We look forward to many more upcoming media placements on Hanne’s behalf.
